If a recipe calls for 1 oz non fat milk solids, how much milk can i substitute?

The fact is that while milk powder adds weight IT DOES NOT ADD VOLUME it dissolves freely in water so while 8 oz of weight plus 1 oz milk powder = 9 oz by weght it is still 8 oz by volume (one cup) so if you are subing 1 oz of milk powder and 1 cup water the replacment would be 1 cup milk. So the question is how much liquid is called for in your recipe. Bottom line: you can't sub milk, a liquid, for a non liquid ingredient unless you formulate the liquid content of the recipe.
