  1. Just think of that poor, poor teacher that has to read through your extra garbage, and you will pare some of the trivial stuff out.

  2. Yes

  3. yes, because you have been given a maximum page limit and you are crossing that limit, so you will have to face a penalty for that. make your essay to-the-point and delete extra details.

  4. When teachers TELL you a maximum, they mean it.  They do that mostly because to see if you can follow directions so shorten your essay to 3!

  5. I would assume so. That is what the word "maximum" means. Part of learning to write well is learning how to say things in a meaningful and succinct manner - without all the fluff. Plus, teachers have a LOT of homework to grade and papers to read. I wouldn't want to put her in a bad mood by giving her extra to do when she is giving you a grade. Imagine your reaction if she gave you an extra homework assignment that you weren't expecting? Cut out the fluff and give her what she asked for.

  6. Maybe.  It would depend on the teacher, and probably also on the quality of the essay.  If it's a joy to read, you may get away with it.  If it seems to drag on and on and has lots of errors or unnecessary information, and also if other students have made theirs too long too, then you are more likely to be penalized.

Think about how many pages of essays your teacher has to read overall, say 3 x 30 = 90 vs 5 x 30 = 150.  You may then realize why there is a three page limit!

  7. It depends on the teacher. You might want to revise and edit it until you get to at least four pages. Most teachers put a limit so they don't have to spend their whole lives reading essays, but in my opinion they shouldn't be a teacher if they don't want to work. :]

  8. Yes, because you made them read 2 more pages on top of their already full workload and didnt follow instructions.

  9. I wouldn't risk going above and beyond this time. If a teacher says they want no more than 3 pages, then they mean it. They may not read it if you didnt follow directions.

  10. Most likely. You should try to cut down on any fluff or unnecessary information so you have the right amount of pages.

  11. YES! When a professor assigns a 3 page essay they are usually trying to gauge how clearly you can communicate your thoughts and ideas in a given amount of space. Some of the most challenging papers are the shorter ones.
