  1. The rugby players..

  2. It depends if the top american football players had been trained from practically birth as the team of top rugby players have been then it would be a pretty exciting game. The american team would be the true all blacks because there would probably be no one with a white skin tone on the team. I'd have to give the american football players a slight advantage just because they are so much faster than rugby players but they do not have the tackle breaking and agility that rugby's player base has.

If they played as is it would be a simple victory that even the Swiss national rugby team could win with astounding ease. But in reverse if they played american football the top rugby players would be all but dead. And if they played a neutral sport like Football, Cricket, or Baseball the Rugby boys would win because American Footballers don't know how to play cricket or football/soccer, and baseball is in ways quite similar to cricket giving the rugby players advantage once again. Rugby might have to lose out to basketball though.

If you can make sense of what I just wrote I commend you.

  3. What would they play?

  4. depends which rules they play - if its rugby then easily the rugby players as they have the stamina and strength ... anyway the american footbal players woudl chicken out as once they had taken all their padding off they are just girls underneath ... not - stop - thats unfair to girls... Also it seems that all US football players take drugs....rugby players just drink a lot fo beer - afterwards as well....

  5. Depends on the game.

I have wondered how well a team of American Football players only taking running backs, tight ends, line backers, safeties, and corner backs would do in the Rugby world if they were given two years to learn the game.  After 6 months or so let them start playing friendlies against top Clubs from around the world and see if they can improve over time.

  6. What game are they playing?

If it's Rugby, then the yanks would cop a flogging

  7. It depends on what positions they play and what game they are playing.

  8. rugby players would win them american football players are chicken they have big shoulder pads if rugby had them pads there would be deaths.

  9. Each at their "OWN" game most probably. Look, no pro plays some other sport for living and these guys are good in their own fields.

However, I feel the NFL stars want last 80+ minutes against a well drilled World Rugby Union side.

  10. rugby 100% because they have better stamina and take bigger hits on a regular basis with minimal padding.

  11. american football is g*y!

  12. If the American football players playing are in the NFL then the American football players would win either sport if they had a coach and were trained in it for a few weeks. the top class athletes playing the top level international rugby have tried  American football and been rejected except for a few punters. Jonah Lomu tried out for the NFL and was not fast or strong enough to make a practice squad. The few american rugby players that have made an impact internationally (Dan Lyle) were second string NFL players at best. The ability to run 4.5 and be 250 lbs is a huge advantage and that is the minimum standard in the NFL.

If we are talking about your regular guy playing sandlot football or flag football then the rugby players would win at that level with relative ease as it takes a lot more to play club rugby than flag football.

I have played football through college in the US and rugby since then, rugby is a lot more fun but no money in it in the US.

  13. A few years ago Wigan ( a top British League side ) played Bath ( a top British Union side ) in two games , one under the rules of each code .

Both teams won the games played under their code rules comfortably .... in fact the games were mis-matches.

I would imagine if an American Football side played a Rugby Union side the same thing would happen ... in fact the mis-matches would be greater. Neither team would have the " subtle nouse " of the other code . This is something that can't be coached , it can only be acquired with experience.

  14. well from what I can remember American football (gridiron) started from rugby anyway.  The rules allow for 1 forward pass and as many lateral passes as you like.  A lateral pass is the same as in rugby - a sideways or backward pass not forward.  Not many teams use the additional pass sequences as it endangers the safety of holding the ball.

I am sure there are 2 teams who have won championships in the very last moments of the games using "rugby" techniques.  The first was in the 1970's and the last even happened at a college final in 2007.

So a short answer would be the Rugby players HOWEVER that would be dependent on the rules of the game.

  15. rugby they dont need padding like the fairy americans do

  16. Rugby is a contact sport. its cute you play in shorts.

American football is collision  sport.  without the pads you would be dead or in a wheelchair.

If you take only  DB's LB's FB's HB's from  American football then  the American win.

  17. American football players wouldn't last eighty minutes..they are designed to work explosively for one play only..

  18. At grid iron....the Americans...at rugby....the Rugby players. They are VERY different games.

  19. Each would win at their own sport but I think the Rugby players would make a better showing than the American football players in the others game.  I don't think American footballers would have the overall toughness for rugby whereas the rugby guys would be able to hold their own in American football.

  20. Didnt this happen one time? American football Vs Rugby? The Rugby players won. Not sure what year it was.

  21. well, football players are usually bigger since they dont have to be running around as much as the rugby players.

but the rugby players can move around alot easier and faster.  but it would be a good match and noone really knows the answer to it until it happens

  22. Probably the rugby players because they are more agile and stronger all round when football players are either bulky or quick, not both. Also the football players wud keep on high tackling (if they were playing rugby).

  23. If it was a three way tournament with rugby, football, and rugby league, each team playing one game of each, of each of the three codes, . . . so six games in total, two of your own code and one of each of the other two, . . .

. . . I would not hesitate to put my money on the league payers, they have the speed and agility of the union players and they are as big or bigger than the football players.

  24. Which code are they playing? In their own respective code, they are always going to win because they know the little "tricks" of the game.

  25. depends what they played ??

each team would win in its own field

  26. What game are they playing by the way? I think rugby players would win though. american football is c**p.
