  1. Well they are fruit, but they taste like veges.

Lol but if you want to put one in your fruit salad, I'm not stoppin' ya.

  2. Botanically speaking tomatoes are actually berries and are closely related to to chili peppers and eggplants -- go figure.  I think the reason they are treated as vegetables vs. as a berry or a fruit is that they are not overly sweet like some of the more "traditional" fruits or berries like strawberries, peaches, etc.

  3. I envision a world in which we don't stereotype fruits and vegetables, but let them make the choice of how they want to spend their lives without telling them they are making the "wrong" choice.

Growing up as a tomato, among the other fruits, all my peers dreamed of the day that they could become a productive contributor to a fruit salad.  I, however, just didn't feel like a fruit salad was the right place for me.  I just didn't fit in with the rest of them.  I felt like I was better suited to living with vegetables in a vegetable salad.  Because of their ridicule, I questioned my ambitious goal; I even visited a fruit salad once.  But it just felt so wrong.

Finally, I rose above the pressure of others and went to a vegetable salad.  This is where I happily remain.  Though some still question my choice, I am proud to be living my dream and being myself.

    :)

  4. To answer your question with a question -

Why do people put BANANAS in a fruit salad when they are botanically NOT a fruit?

    or

Why to some people try to class mushrooms as a vegetable when they, as Fungi, are not related even to PLANTS ??! (Fungi are no closer to plants then they are to animals, blech!)

or to quote Bill Murray in Groundhog Day

"Why do people eat BLOOD SAUSAGE ?? [because, and here's your answer...] PEOPLE ARE MORONS"

  5. tomatoes are the fruit of the tomato plant. they have a veggiet taste and veggie nutrients

  6. Botanically, it is a berry.

Fruit salad... never thought of it... why not try it and see.  Maybe it just doesn't taste very good mixed with fruit.

Sorry, not in a creative mood.

  7. They really should make this a vegetable. Most that I know consider it as one.

  8. Yes it's a fruit, but it doesn't taste like one. So why would you want to put it in a fruit salad??

  9. No reason why not

  10. this has bothered me for a while too, but its probly because they aren;t as sweet as most other fruits

  11. Because strawberry used to date kiwi but banana caught strawberry cheating on kiwi with tomato, so tomato got banned from fruit salad.

  12. Scientifically it's a fruit but used as a vegetable when it comes to cooking.  Why is it not used in fruit salad?  Because it probably wouldn't be too tasty in there.

Did you know that cucumbers, peppers, squash, eggplants etc are also all fruits?  Fruit does not just mean sweet..it's a general term for veggies/fruit that develop from the ova of a plant which is that little flower you see on tomato, cucumber plants etc.

  13. I am not so good at being creative, but I can do research and figure things out!  This is what I learned:

A vegetable is any part of a plant that is used for food, and a fruit is a seed-bearing part of a plant that is used for food.  So all fruits are vegetables, actually.

When it comes to eating, though, we generally think of fruits as being sweeter.  Apparently there is actually a term for fruits that are not so sweet, and thus treated as vegetables, "fruit vegetables."   Eggplant, peppers, avocado, cucumber, tomato and zucchini are all technically fruits, or fruit vegetables.  Mix all those together and you'll get a really unusual but yummy fruit salad.

  14. Its not a rule that you have to put every fruit in a fruit salad. Some people put nuts in fruit salad. How about that? Is a nut a fruit now?

  15. Yes, a tomato is technically a fruit.  but has been seen fraternizing with the veggies.

  16. Tomato is a fruit and a vegetable.
