  1. the first Q is why would it be so?  both r power blocs and each has power etc within their domain.  EU is more sensible / pragmatic than USA - so why bother about n.america.

transatlantic trade is already ongoing and run into trillions - so perhaps it wont make much difference - merely more facilitation.

eu is slowly and surely creating a niche for themselves and is lending stability to the world economy.  american is always messing things up.  tho' usa is still one of the largest economy in the world and hence influences the world.

    YES!!

  2. No, americans would never agree to pull some sovereignty into the european parliament/commission and the europeans would never agree to work with the money greedy capitalist america.

They give health care only to rich people? Oh please.

Or not to mention the gun control in the states.

Or the fact that life threatening chemicals can go to production and stay in production until they actually HURT someone, while in europe its exact opposite, chemicals have to undergo a variety of tests and be proven to be fine before going into production. Again they choose money over people.

Even if we had a translantic free trade area the EU would still exist because it's simply more than a free trade area now. The Europeans want their voices to be heard in the world, which can only be achieved through the EU.
