  1. According to my psych professor...

"The falling tree certainly does produce alternating bands of compressed and less dense air molecules that travel in waves; whether you are close enough to allow these waves to be directed by your pinna to vibrate your eardrum is another question entirely"

  2. Actually, they say that it does not make a sound. A sound is vibrations travelling into the ear, so if there is no ear for the vibrations to enter, than technically it does not make a sound.

  3. Of course it does

  4. The trick here is not to think hard.  How could a tree fall silently?  It couldn't, of course!

There is nothing confusing or mysterious about this question.

  5. If a falling tree makes a sound when someone IS around to hear it, then why in the world would it all of the sudden NOT make a sound just because no one is around to hear it?

Does a person's absence somehow hinder sound waves?

But if you really want to know for sure, then go find some deaf guy, give him a tape recorder, and send him out into the woods.

       1. If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it does it make a sound?

  7. Of course it wud make a sound even if it's not heard.

  8. yes because sound is basically waves and waves travel whether or not it goes to your ear.

  9. Argg this question annoys me so much. Just because no one is around to hear it, it doesn't mean it doesn't make a sound. It's like saying if you're dog is barking at home and no one is there to hear it does it make a sound....like obviously it does we just aren't there at the time.
