  1. If a deaf man cuts a tree down with a chainsaw, with no one else around,Does the chainsaw make noise?

  2. No. The term noise (vice "sound") implies an irritating sound. If no one is irritated or able to judge the quality of the sound, then it is just that, a sound.

  3. If nobody is there how do you know it fell?

  4. To you it doesn't.. so don't worry about it ;-)

  5. by definition noise is the impact of sound waves on ears.

  9. yes, because big foot would be there in the woods,,,he would hear it!

  10. sound waves create vibrations though

  11. No because noise must be picked up by some sort of recepter to be perceived.  if there is nothing to hear it, there is no sound

  12. ummm yes?..

  13. Yes, it does.

The dictionary defines, "noise" as simply "sound, esp. of a loud, harsh or confused kind."

Scientifically speaking, the sound itself is formed when the tree falls, and sound waves are emitted. The fact that there's no receiver for the signal is not relevant to the fact that the sound itself exists.

Q.E.D. The "noise" does indeed exist as sound waves, even with no reciever... those sound waves are simply not perceived, since there's no receiver.

  14. Yes.

  15. I think the animals in the woods would hear it - so, yes, I guess it makes a noise!
