If a tree trunk was broken by a huge force, not all the way broken, but cracked about halfway through, would the tree die? Or is there a chance that it can still grow?

  1. My neighbor's tree was hit by lightening, has a gash in it all the way down one side and that was over 20 years ago.  It even started rotting out in the center and he poured cement in it!  The will to live is VERY STRONG!

  2. No the tree wont die unless it already is dead. It was the branch that broke not the roots. :)

  3. Tree will not die (unless some serious parasite/infection occurs).  As long as the roots are in tact, it'll live.

  4. yes it should die  branches don't matter but the trunk it self maybe useley yes. the trunk and the top are very sensitive to a tree.

  5. it can grow if it's fastened tightly together.

Then again, if this tree is a large tree on your yard, I'd suggest you cut it off just for safety reasons.

  6. It will still keep growing but you have to remember now the risk of it falling when another wind comes.

  7. I had some friends with one snapped in half, and split during a recent storm. The nursery told them they could bend it back, brace it with wire and plastic to stand upright, and then even use screws to close it back up.

Trees are pretty resilient, and if you can find some sort of plant seal, maybe it will keep insects out for a quicker recovery.

    Good luck!

I wonder how our friend's tree is doing???

  8. It really depends on what type of tree you have, and how old it is. Younger trees that are faster growers tend to grow back from a trunk much easier than older ones.

  9. it'll grow.because  the trunk pulls up water and ... so if it is not completely broken it'll grow but maybe it won't be as pretty as it used to be

  10. get some tape and put it back together, thats what we did and ours is still alive.

  11. No it will probably not grow. The tree has been damaged enough to end its growing process. It won't be able to absorb as much of the nutrients it requires, so most likely it will not live, if i'm picturing what your saying correctly that is. Also it depends more about how is was punctured. Vertically or horizantally. Horizantally then no probably not, since its cut off from half of its roots and ways of collecting nutrients. If it was cut vertically, then there is a greater chance because the nurtirents can still travel through to the rest of the tree. Hope that helps u!
