  1. Hurricanes are in the North Atlantic Ocean, the Northeast Pacific Ocean east of the international dateline, or the South Pacific Ocean east of 160E longitude.

Typhoons are in the Northwest Pacific Ocean west of the international dateline.

Severe tropical cyclones are in the Southwest Pacific Ocean west of 160E longitude or Southeast Indian Ocean east of 90E longitude.

Severe cyclonic storms are in the North Indian Ocean

Tropical cyclones are in the Southwest Indian Ocean.

    For Southern California: HURRICANE.

  2. It's different in all three. It's a hurricane in the Atlantic, typhoon in the Pacific, and cyclone in the Indian.

  3. It'll be a Hurricane in Southern California and the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico. In the Pacific Ocean closer to Japan and Southeast Asia, they will be Typhoons and in the Indian Ocean, they will be called Cyclones.

  4. Well, it's been 150 years since we've had one (although Kathleen came close in 1976), but it would be a hurricane.  They are quite unlikely, although not impossible, in California.  Maybe with global warming will get a few more.
