If a webmaster of a website has made it so that search engines cannot find it ,is there another way to find it

My friend says he is sure that someone has started a website about him and is spreading malicious lies about him,But when he uses Yahoo,Google or any other search engine he just cant find the website.He puts his name in the search but nothing comes up.Is there another way to find out what or where the website is?He knows that webmasters can make it so that search engines cant find certain websites.Is there a way around this?

There is a metatag that can be inserted into HTML to tell a search engine not to index it. Without an index there is no way to find a site.
