If a woman is blood type A- is there a risk to the baby? Or will there be some complications down the line?

  1. if the baby has positive blood the first will be fine, however, the mother's body will build up antibodies which could cause complications with the second baby


  2. The problem only occurs if the father is Rh+ and the fetus also is. It causes the mother's blood to form antibodies that could cause problems in later pregnancies. However, most women who are Rh- get a shot during their pregnancy to prevent future problems.

    Strangely, I am not positive but not completely negative either. I did not require any shots but it turns out that one wouldn't have been needed anyway. My older daughter has the same blood type I do.

  3. If the father is blood type any +, there is a minor issue to address.  She will be given a Rogam injection during the pregnancy and after delivery.  It's not a problem, just a preventitive.
