It would benefit the democrats as zombies feed on brains and most don't have any, thus they'd be safe.

Neither. The ensuing chaos would leave the meekest of the politicians hiding in a corner of some dark room, praying for dear life, and wetting their pants. The braver ones will step fourth and lead the country through the zombie invasion. Among these few, there will be both Republicans and Democrats. They will both have their own ideas on what to do, and they'll spend so much time bickering about whose plan is better that they will all be eaten.

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't benefit anyone.  FYI: the reason we have 21 gun salutes is because back in the old days military commanders were more superstitious.  They actually believed that their dead compatriots may come back to life and walk the earth.  So, they would shoot the body 21 times and encase the grave in concrete.  Crazy times huh?
