OK now I know that child support is about making sure children are taken care of and making sure it is not up to govt.

That being said this question is strictly from a logical viewpoint of responsibility/authority...not about the child's interests********

*Assuming abortion is legal* it follows that the decision to keep or abort a pregnancy is the mother's. She would logically have the right to determine for herself with maybe input from father..but well within rights as it is her body.

Now based on that does it not logically follow that the man, having no authority over this decision would not bear an equal responsibility and so logically only be accountable for only a minority share of the burden?

*again..I am saying I think things should be like this and I am not counting the interests of the child+society...just the authority in relation to responsibility from a logic viewpoint*

  1. Well, let's look at it this way. My parents divorced when I was 5. My dad decided that he didn't like having a family, so he left and barely ever saw us. Oh yes, he paid child support on time every single month. But, he didn't have to take us to doctor appointments, he wasn't there when we had the chickenpox, didn't stay up with us late to help with our science fair projects, didn't come to our school events, he DIDN'T do anything... so, from what I can tell, when a man gets a woman pregnant, and she has a baby, he pretty much has the choice to NOT have to be responsible for it at all.  Paying child support isn't taking responsibility... consider it a "rogue sperm tax." Trust me, most men get the minority share of the burden even when they stick around. Having a baby doesn't make you a parent anymore than owning a piano makes you a pianist.

  2. of course.

men should be able to just run around with out any consequences for their actions. it's mean and sexist of this society (run by men, by the way) to force fathers to care for their offspring in any way. you are so right. i'm sure your the only man to ever complain about this.

edit- golly, i must be some kind of freak of nature, to be able to write but not to read. hmm.

and i'm just saying that i'm highly suspicious of someone who doesn't want to do the best for their children. and by the way, what's your solution? make men the deciders of the abortion?

  3. I'm a little confused about what you're asking...
