  1. There is not nearly enough information here to answer this question. There may be no available casing. Revolvers do not discharge casings, or the murderer might take his spent casings with him. A gunshot to the head without any sign of struggle means that there may not be any DNA evidence left at the crime scene. The bullet itself may have fragmented as it entered the skull. If so, ballistics may be inconclusive or even impossible. In addition, ballistics is a comparative science. In other words, two bullets can be compared and determined whether they were fired from the same gun, but there is no indication as to who owns or has possession of the gun.


  2. First not all guns eject their shell casings. Second some people pick up their cartridges. Third shell casings do not generally have distinctive markings like the projectiles that pass through the guns barrel.

  3. maybe, but what if the gun is stolen, and they cant trace anything until they have a gun or suspect.
