If after a 6 month overstay in the usa 22 years ago

I Now now apply for and get a holiday visa what are the chances that i could still be refused entry when i get to immigration in the states.i am from ireland and we have the waiver scheme and would be only one of few with a visa.any help thanks

  1. The 3 and 10 year bars for overstaying went into effect in 1997. If you overstayed in 1986, that overstay will have no effect on your current eligibility to enter the U.S.

    You could enter under the VWP without a visa unless your previous overstay happened after admission under the VWP, but that program started about 20 years ago. If you used a visa 22 years ago to overstay, then you could use the VWP now.

    They aren't going to get new-information before your arrival, that wasn't considered in your application.

    When you arrive they will base your admission on your visa, and the impressions you make when entering.

  3. Your no longer entitle to use the visa waiver program due to your past overstaying...

    if you got the visa. i don't see why you would get turn back at the US airport. (just remember to leave the US on time this time)

  4. Get a visa, bring plenty of proof of your life in Ireland etc.  You will not be refused.

  5. If you broke our law then I would not let you back in now..... but go ahead and try.
