alcohol doesn't taste bad to everyone.  It just depends on your preference.  When I was younger I didn't like the taste of Beer and now I do.

The reason is because many people are willing to sacrifice the awful taste for the feeling of being drunk.

You are basing your question on a perception rather than fact to begin with.

The question of why people get drunk could be answered many ways but I don't have the energy to list them.

Like any food or drink, the taste of alcohol (specifically spirits, beer and wine) have different tastes to most people who consume them. I know I like the taste of a single malt scotch that other people do not (and in fact, many people can't stand scotch, while I quite enjoy it).
