Why do we send c**p out in to space trying to get sometype of repsonse back; when they might not have the same technology, might not know its there and unable to detect it, know its there and might not be able to decipher it or they just dont want to respond.

Just like humans aliens could have something like caller id that tells them what planet or solar system something came from and decide that they dont want to answer anything from that planet or solar system

If they are not within 1 or two solar systems away it would take forever to recieve and respond back.

We could have sent something to a place lightyears away and by the time they get it and respond back humans could be extinct or the earth could be destroyed

Or we might get our own stuff back to us in like 500 or a thousand years

So whats the point of sending stuff deep into space trying to someone who may or may not be real and may or may not want to contact us back.

  1. Because you'll never receive if you don't first ask.

Besides, most of our attempts at communication with aliens center around the SETI stuff. We mostly just listen now. So don't worry, it's only a little bit of your tax dollars being used up.

  2. Well we are not INTENTIONALLY trying to send stuff to aliens.

Oh, there have been a few instances where a new radio telescope sent out a brief message as a part of a dedication ceremony, and some plaques and records have been placed on space craft as a token gesture to any possible other intelligent life out there, but there is no concerted effort to attract the attention of aliens. In fact, there is some debate if that would even be safe, given that it is at least possible that some aliens who would want to destroy us haven't done so already simply because they are unaware of our existence.

But there is a concerted effort under way, under the name SETI (which stands for Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence), to LISTEN for any signals aliens may be sending out, intentionally or not.

But All the radio traffic we send from place to place all the time is not all captured by the intended receiver. Lots of radio emissions from Earth not intended to be picked up by aliens COULD be picked up by them, if they were searching for it.

  3. Cause we have no idea if they exist.  Though I understand your point.  And the human body just wants knowledge.  But maybe we can figure them out with our technology and they won't be able to contact us.

  4. Well, you're right, space presents a great boundry; the huge distances make communication really difficult. Signals sent from outer space would take light years to get here; for all we know they're extinct.

To answer one of the greatest questions asked, posed by us and possibly them.
