without the annotations for solid liquid or aqueous in subscript. if this has to just come by memory, then please provide a link. no annoying answes like: states change blablabla. thank you

    A lot of compounds you'll eventually get around to memorizing after a while.

    You should be able to recognize metals (e.g.: Na, Zn, etc.) and know right away that they should be solids. Ions are aqueous and gases are gases (e.g.: O2, CO2, O3, etc.). However, many compounds, such as water (H2O), can have many states (solid, liquid, gas are all possible) and thus depend on the reaction.]
