Question:

If all of the US went "Green" today, what difference would it make, if the rest of the world didn't?

If most of the world doesn't go "Green", aren't we just trying to put out a forest fire with a cup of water? The "Every little bit helps" scenario just doesn't hold up. We've been doing that for some time now and it's not working.

  1. It would make a huge difference, trust me! The the rest of the world would be very likely to follow. Every country knows the importance of this issue and the U.S. is in the position of being able to also put pressure on other countries. However, to put pressure on others America have to show that they are willing to do their part since you still are VERY high in greenhouse gas emissions per capita. Much higher than for example India and China. This is a political game where nobody wants to give more than they get!

  2. Every little bit helps and if everyone thought about what they throw away and all the other aspects of going green, the world would be a better place.

  3. Massive.

America sets the trends that the rest of the world follows.  Countries might hate them, but they want what America has and imitates it's lifestyle

  4. we've been doing that for some time now, eh?  since when?...granted we're a step or two ahead of, say, china, but we're by no means doing everything we can....'green' shouldn't have the connotation of a bunch of weed-smoking, barefoot hippies...what should come to mind are the seemingly insignificant things we all can do to clean up a little...coupla things your mom shoulda taught ya:  1)set a good example, and 2) just cuz so-n-so's doing it, doesn't make it right for YOU to do it....peace

  5. Al Gore would have to move his rhetoric to China... we'd never see him again... might be worth it...

  6. IF US turns Green they would be a role model for all other countries who pollute a great deal. Im giving you a example, when in choirs, when everyone sings a little bit, it sounds great. the same thing can be done to make the world a better place.

    ^_^

  7. Unless you are personally placing thousands of gallons of toxins into the air or water there is not much that you could do to mess up the environment. The earth is self cleaning. Rain cleans up the air and the rivers. As far as global warming goes. It is a hoax. Most of the earth is covered by water. If the earth heats up more water will evaporate and create more clouds, which will shade the earth and cool it off. Sunspot activities can and do cause more warming or cooling than man could if man wanted to. We just are not power full enough to make much of a difference.

  8. Gandhi was just one man.

Now look at what's become of his cause.

Let the US be the martyr. We've got to eventually do something right.

  9. I pick up a backpack of trash every day along the road between my house and town.   Don't tell me every bit doesn't help.   When I went on vacation for awhile and came back it was a dump.

Who's been doing it for some time anyway?   Up until last year we were still emmited the most CO2 of any country in the world.   At the very least, we'd make the middle east countires feel some pain which is my biggest goal in reducing oil use.

  10. Have you been to other country's? Have you seen the pollution their cars make? You have no idea. Its terrible. We are quite lucky here and are making a big difference if you compare our country with another's.

  11. Considering that in 24 hours the U.S. consumes more gasoline stopped at red lights and at drive through windows than the rest of the world consumes in thirty days, yes, the U.S. going green would have a major impact.

And since the rest of the world manufactures products predominately for sale in the U.S., if we demanded green products, the rest of the world would follow suit. Manufacturers would not waste money building product for two different markets. They would build green because we are the largest consumers on the planet, the rest of the world would be forced to follow suit.

We already have the biggest impact on the planet, good and bad. Going green would be good for the world, and we can make it happen without firing a shot.

    LUCK!

  12. if the whole planet went green it wouldn't change anything, there would still be climate change it is a natural thing.

  13. None, that is our point,  you see it has nothing to do with helping the enviorment, but everything to do with hobbling the US workers and economy,   That's what they don't want you to find out.   I been to China and some of the other places, believe me, we couldn't put that much pollution in to the air if we tried.

  14. Unfortunately every country seems to take the same stance as you.  Sadly this means that it looks like nothing will ever be done on a large enough scale to reverse the damage we're all doing.

It would take a huge country like the US to make a stand out and lead by example and maybe other countries would follow suit.

    PS.  I'm not american

  15. We already have been lowering pollution levels more than any other country for the past 20 years, but not even Europe wants to follow us by example.

So you're right, no one would do the same even if the US went back to the stone age, getting rid of all technological advances.  And why do we want to do that anyway when the reasons for doing so are so flimsy?

The whole thing is a bogus way to cripple the economy of advanced countries and keep developing countries from ever becoming advanced.
