I am writing a sci fi novel and just wondering if cell phones or land lines would work if there was no one at the phone companies.

  1. No - not unless the children could suddenly take over the maintenance and running of power stations and the networks themselves.

    They don't run themselves.

  2. NOT if they don't have money to pay the bill

  3. no, but they could still use stuff like CB radios or battery operated walkie talkies.

  4. All thaat stuff is operated by computers, so yes for a while they would work fine. If the kids didn't learn how to maintain and  repair them eventually things would break down and stop working.

  5. um yeah i think so. why could the kids not do do the jobs?

  6. For a short period of time the phone system would work as normal provided it had reliable electricty. A modern city has less than ten people working on the back room equipment. So to keep things the same would be ok. No changes no new lines, and when high winds or storms come through the lines will come down and kids aren't putting up poles. So over time you lose contact with the world. A very local network could be maintained (50 phones or s****. older kids maybe

  7. i think you'd have a mass depression of electronics on the planet. kids just cant pick up after the adults, they gotta learn the stuff. maybe make a mistake, or a big mistake every now and then

  8. i guess i mean their is really smart kids that could take over.

  9. YES! KIDS RULE!!!!!!!!

  10. as things began to require upgrades and repairs the services available to them would slowly diminish. they would be fine perhaps for several years, in which time, they would no longer be children, and hopefully studied the manuals and repair guidelines, and learned how to make the repairs and upgrades...

they could always make an ad-hoc wifi network to connect multiple LANs into a neighborhood network and use some type of voice chat, or wifi phones to communicate, unless they use FRS radios...

  11. Until the power ran out.  No one would shut down accounts, but how would kids keep the power plants running?

  12. since its sci fi and prolly in the future you would have to have some genius kid be able to hack into the satelites in the sky and be able to monitor and service it from a computer or laptop

  13. idk try letting kids run the phone compianes

  14. Sure. Why not? they can run AT&T. and anyone will work with hannah montana. hahaha.

  15. no because there are systems in the back end that kids have no clue how to work or program but since its a story you can make it do whatever you want. There is alot of stuff to the phone/inet system.
