If altering your body is haram why is circumcision promoted in Islam?

Who knows.  All religion is made up so it is bound to have faults within its sacred texts.  The best advice is that if you are going to live your life by a book - have tangible evidence that what it says is true.  Therein lies the problem - there is no tangible evidence.

1 – Protection against local infection in the p***s.

2 – Protection against Infections of the urethra

3 – Protection against cancer of the p***s

4 – Protection against Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)

5 – Protection of wives against cervical cancer

This was the (doing) of Abraham ( asws). Many norms which proven its practicality, kept in Islam. Jews also followed this Abrahamic norm. They circumcise their sons.Its more hygienic, and even Christian doctors don't reject it.

According to this Islamic Hadith, it looks like circumcision is allowed for both men and women.

At least it infers that Aiesha, (Muhammeds 9 year old bride), was circumcised,

In Sahih Muslim (349) it is narrated from 'Aa'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “When a man sits between the four parts (arms and legs of his wife) and the two circumcised parts meet, then ghusl is obligatory.”

I think, but I am not sure, altering body parts for empty purposes (making oneself look better for attraction) is prohibited:

004.117 (The Pagans), leaving Him, call but upon female deities: They call but upon satan the persistent rebel!

004.118 Allah did curse him, but he said: "I will take of Thy servants a portion Marked off;

004.119 "I will mislead them, and I will create in them false desires; I will order them to slit the ears of cattle, and to deface the (fair) nature created by Allah." Whoever, forsaking Allah, takes satan for a friend, hath of a surety suffered a loss that is manifest.
