  1. Americans don't need visas to travel to European countries for vacations or short visits.

  2. I am not from the U.S but I from N. America, and I have been to Europe and I have never used a visa to travel.  A passport should get you in and out of most of Europe, Your question is confusing.

  3. No, you just need an American passport.

  4. From the USA, no, you don`t need one.

Should you for whatever reason still be required one - then you`ll get what is called a Schengen Visum - this is for almost all European countries.

    See : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schengen_Ag... for details.

  5. United States citizens do not need a visa for short term visits (up to 90 days) to any of the Schengen States within the European Union or for the UK.

Other countries may have other requirements.

The Schengen States are Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden.
