If an 18 year old person were to run away from her parents' house where she currently resided, could her parents call the police and have her be subjected to punishment with the law?

  1. 18 ??? Its time to leave the nest any way . your an adult at 18 well as far as the law goes atleast . there will be no legal consequences .

  2. NOT if shes 18.

That doesn't mean they won't try.

  3. Wow... 18... run away???

  4. your on you own now sucka- your parents can change the lock on the door and it's more like you can not do anything about it.

  5. u are 18, u can do whatever you want. Just let them know you are leaving so they dont panic. And if they try to stop you... well, they can't. You;re 18

  6. the 911 operator would ask the age, after 24 hours, a missing persons report may be filed, its not treated as a runaway.

  7. I don't know if I'm a 100% right but your 18

so that makes you an adult. If your parents

were to call the police they can't really do

    anything cause your 18.

  8. Depending on if any laws have been broken or in some aspect "her" life was in danger somehow.

  9. It wouldn't be classified as "running away" because the person in question is an adult - so, no.

  10. There has got to me more to the situation than is being told here. My daughter is eighteen and still in high school yet she is in State's custody. She ran away from her foster home and was told that she could be put in girl's home til she graduates if she does it again.

Depends on the circumstances. Being eighteen does not give power to "do what you want", if she is still in high school then there might be issues due to whatever might be going on.

Also depends on the state. I am in Missouri.

My son took off at nineteen and all we could do was list him as a missing ADULT. Not runaway.

The police generally do something about missing people only after twenty four hours though and by then she could be long gone. Not saying that is the smartest idea.

Seek legal advise from a local law enforcement agency. Until then encourage her to stay home where she is safe and loved.

      Good luck
