Without being shot for mutiny, I mean. You know, as in the submarine is out of contact with high command and the crew cannot immediately contact headquarters for instructions about what to do about the looney-tunes running the boat.

"Captain? Uhm ... you're saying that Elmer Fudd is trying to attack and destroy all the Starbucks in Los Angeles from that Russian destroyer, using thought waves, and you ... ah, want us to launch missiles at the Russians?"

  1. The crew can use their best judgement in what is acceptible and what is not...

There has been a lot of contraversy overseas about this... Does tieing up, harrasssing, and striping down muslems sound familiar.......supposively some of the head guys were telling their men to do it....

A submarined can stay in contact with land bases/ships....a loss of communication is highly unlikely!

  2. Of course. That's not just in submarines, it can happen on any vessel or in any unit. As a matter of fact, in the Army, when I was in fire direction, if my Staff Sergeant began issuing errant orders to lay artillery fire other than where it should be landing, and you followed his orders, you could be charge with more crimes than him. You were obligated to relieve him.

    It's called an "Unlawful Order".

  3. Yes

If you knew the crew of any submarine you would know they are so specially trained and screen for their job. I doubt it will ever happen.

I know it made of a good movie Red Tide but it is too much fiction for reality.
