  1. They are still trying to find out. I used to teach Autistic children and at that time, it was difficult to find out how they actually learned, but they did. Of course, there are different types of autism so there won't be just one answer.

  3. It is learnt, but it is learnt as a result of deficit.

    The ability to organise certain information quickly and accurately is achieved sometimes because of the lack of other cerebral needs and duties.

    It has similarity to someone deprived of a sensory function performing at a higher level as a result.  The increased hearing capacity of a blind person being an example.

    If the brain has difficulty recognising relationships between the information it receives, it appears to build up a mass of information on one subject to compensate.
