  1. Ask Jeff O'Neill. After the 2006-07 season he wasn't signed so he played in a Beer League in King City Ontario last year.


  2. They don't play until someone signs them. Usually they will go play in another league until an NHL team calls. Sometimes players will ink a minor league contract with the AHL to stay sharp. Brian Boucher did this last year with the Phantoms. He signed a one year deal with the Phantoms and started the season with them before finishing it with the Sharks in the NHL.

  3. he sits around like barry bonds hopeing someone will call him or he will go play in europe, almost the same pay. If he can hack it at all in the NHL someone will pick him up eventually but for less money

  4. Restricted free agents go to arbitration to get their salary. The team can either accept it, or decline it. If the team declines his arbitration contract, he becomes an unrestricted free agent and can sign with any team. Unrestricted free agents can sign whenever they want and do whatever they want. They can sign half way through the season if they choose, or they can go to Europe and play hockey, usually for their home country.

  5. Another bum was Jason Allison. A not-so-expected bum was Cujo before his Spengler Cup performance last year landed him a gig with the Flames and back with the NHL.

  6. They don't play that season. RFAs usually get picked by somebody, UFAs not always. If an RFA becomes a UFA because the team that had their rights didn't qualify their offer, then they may not be signed because they're probably not that good.

    An RFA can also take the team to arbitration- where they get a one year deal of an amount decided by an outside party as fair.

    I'm kidding.  There are alot of league overseas that he could try to join for a year.

  8. Darren McCarty is a good example of this.

    Last year he started in the IHL playing for the Flint Generals.He then got called up to the Grand Rapid Griffins (the Red Wing AHL club).

    He got called up to the Red Wings with 3 games left in the regular season and played in the playoffs.
