  1. same as burt c his got the proof

  2. It all depends upon who's operating 'em and how well they're maintaining them. Northwest is still flying some DC-9s that were built back in the late '60s early '70s.

You can get 30+ years out of an airframe if you know what you're doing.

  3. The time in service of a plane is measure by AIR TIME or FLYING TIME...so about one millon hours of flying before they get replaced

  4. depends on the airline operating/owning it.....if they want new planes all the time, they may want to replace it after 8 years or more.........such as singapore airlines....known to have one of the youngest fleets in the world.

  5. It depends on the airline and the integrity of the plane, some airlines like Singapore Airlines like to keep a very young fleet and will replace their planes much earlier than other airlines. Singapore's fleet averages a little over 6 years old, airlines like American Airlines and United Airlines fleets average around 15 years old, quite a difference. Singapore often sells their older planes to other airliines, mainly budget carriers for continued use and some airlines may convert older passenger planes to cargo planes. Basically the lifespan of a plane is measured in hours and cycles, but the integrity of the plane based on inspection and maintenance is also a determining factor.
