If an american coming from mexico jumps the border into the united states what happens to them?

an American wouldn't need to 'jump the border'   a legal citizen is allowed to come back through a normal entry without fear of being caught

First off if they are an American citizen why would they need to jump the border?...The only time that I can think of an American jumping the  border is if they loose their pass port .............they probably would get find or some think like that.

If they are caught they would probably be held for questioning and to make sure they weren't smuggling or doing something illegal, but I don't think there is anything they can charge them with if the American is a citizen of the United States of America.

if he has proof that he is an american citzen he might just have to pay a small fine at worst. If he cant show proof he'll be treated as an immigrant

They would be imprisoned for not entering thru the proper channels.  Don't risk it.

Technically they are illegal ins Mexico but if they are trying to get back to the USA they would have to show proof that they are an american citzen.
