Ok here's the deal i watched the end of a kids movie (Titan A.E) and Earth had been distroyed but they had umm DNA or something along those lines, of animals so when they found a place they could habit they could resurrect them again. My question is if they did this how many males and females of one species would you need to repopulate the world without risking genetic problems with in-breeding?

  1. you could start with one first and then go fromt here. i am not sure how you would go about it but dna is what you need and i think they can resurect something but if they have found different ones they can do it that way like artifical insemination.

  2. If you could eliminate harmful genes in the population, then just one male and one female would be fine. In breeding with healthy genes is harmless.

  3. i would think about 750 pairs

  4. Whoa, it's like Jurassic Park. A good number. I don't think just one of each could do it without genetic side-effects. (sorry christians)

  5. It really depends on the species but a vital population should be greater than 100, preferrably greater than 1000.
