how come by adding a 'positive' in front of the word discrimination makes it right?

Now classifying people on their economic circumstance is good to help achieve a progresive soceity based upon ability.

So other than a good business for a lot of people why does colour come into it?

  1. I'm still undecided on the issue of affirmative action, but the premise behind, as you call it, "positive discrimination" is that racial minorities as a group were discriminated against, and the way to offer restitution is to focus on giving those who were denied equal opportunity the ability to be on the same footing as others.

  2. because in this case it works to the advantage of the person who would otherwise of shouting ''unfair'' had they not got the job

now it is still unfair but as it  works in their favour they will be happy and not have to go to a tribunal ..........which often happened if someone else got the job they wanted .....

  3. Affirmative action is just another form of racism and all it will do in the long run is keep racism alive and hurt more innocent people.

  4. lol,  of course it is a bit like painless pain .

  5. Does this Racist law also apply to jobs like shovelling shlt, or does it only apply to the better paid jobs, meaning us Whities in the future are going to have to be content with nothing but the shlty jobs that nobody else wants.

  6. It doesn't. This is just more ill advised tinkering from the government. Companies are already told to apply no other criteria to job applicants than those of suitability for the job. Now the government is trying to tell businesses that those guidelines are no longer good enough, and if there's two applicants left for one post, you MUST choose the woman or any of any other ethnicity as long as it's not white.

Now, I can see what the government THINKS it's going to achieve by this; I can also see what it's actually going to achieve. It is going to make the government even less popular than it already is, for one thing. Another is that employers will resent being told they MUST select one given candidate based purely on their s*x or ethnicity if they are confronted with two candidates with equal qualifications but one of them is white and male and the other is not.

This country has spent years trying to remove all forms of discrimination from industry. Now this stupid bloody government is cheerfully trying to put some back in.

  7. The problem is that we lower our standards in order to accommodate affirmative action.  I see that lowering of standards continuing using class based affirmative action.

The harsh reality is that the other countries in the world are educating their best and brightest, not turning their education system into some modern day revival of Mao Zedong's cultural revolution.

  8. It doesnt.

    Its an excuse.

  9. You are correct, in that introducing the concept of any discrimination being respectable is a very dangerous idea; especially in these times where people have few moral principles already.

  10. Affirmative action should have been for POOR people, not a law segregated to minorities only.
