In other words, what causes you to feel that the human life is sacred if there is no god?

  1. Why would be life sacred if there's a God and worthless if there's no God?

  2. Life is sacred for its own sake, not for some unseen fairy tale invented by our barbarian ancestors....

  3. Being an atheist does not mean you do not consider life to be valuable and worthwhile.

  4. Life is sacred with or without gods if you take a moment to think about how extraordinarily rare and brief it is.  Everything that is "alive" on this Earth is connected by this amazing gift.  The sentience of the human life is truly amazing in itself.

My personal objection to abortion is actually that I "feel" (i.e., I don't know and this is an unenforcable opinion) that many people do not understand the full ramification of that action and end up feeling remorse and guilt much later in life.  It's abuse also promotes a very unhealthy view of life and likely breeds undesireable social behavior.

However, like smoking, drinking, recreational drugs and eating that garbage called McDonald's ... what people do with their own bodies and lives are their business.  We can only educate them on a better "way" to happiness.

Teaching a "way" of living used to be the business of religions.  However, most religions got sidetracked with literal interpretations of their own myths as well as politics and power.  Most are tainted beyond usefulness and must be replaced with a new method of communicating to the youth the important lessons of life.

  5. I'm no atheist, but I've never considered killing to be a religious issue. To me, it's obviously a political one.

"Thou shalt not kill...unless a man from the government says it's ok."

In fact, most of the Ten Commandments seem to have more to do with politics and what people want than with an individual's relationship with God. So, as long as society informs people through political channels that killing is wrong, then even people with no faith will know right from wrong.

The decision to be pro-life or pro-choice is then determined simply by a person's opinion about whether a fetus is a human life that qualifies for legal protection or just a collection of growing cells that can be terminated like any unwanted body-growth. An atheist could easily be pro-life based on that criterion.

The advantage of faith is that God's love in a person should manifest itself in outward good works (and good choices) without much guidance from outside sources.

  6. Human life shouldn't be thrown away because of an 'accident'.  If you didn't/don't want kids, then don't have s*x.  If you have s*x, then you should be prepared for the possibility of children.  Everyone thinks that s*x is just something fun to do, but it is a huge responsibility.  We're talking about the method to create life.  We have much to cavalier of an attitude for something so significant.

For me, religion never even enters into the equation.

  7. All life is to be respected, not held as sacred.

one is to do no harm to all others.

Why do theist have such a difficulty understanding that many, including the Gautama Buddha have no need for a god or supreme being so as to be moral, caring individuals?

Your implications and attitude is demeaning and insulting to others which negates any supposed Christian values and teachings.

Please to remember what you preach of treat others as you would wish to be treated and do not judge...

    Be well.

  8. I just feel that people have no right to kill someone else, even if it is their own child.

  9. I just think it is so black and white. People try to argue that the beginning of human life can be in shades of grey, but I think....

After an egg is fertilized, there is the complete makeup of a brand new human life, one that didn't exist hours before. Its all there. Tiny, but there.
