  1. I think Dawkins should have stuck to science.

I dare you to read "The Dawkins Letters" or "The Dawkins Delusion" afterwards

  2. I am an atheist and have never read it and would not.  The main reason is I think Richard Dawkins is the atheist equivelent of a televangalist.  He turns a profit because he knows he can make semi-inflammitory statements to sell books to people who pretty much all already are atheist.  If you really want to enlighten society (the religious portion of it) you don't write a book called "God Delusion" as most aren't going to ever consider reading it just because of the title.

If you want a book that demonstrates why there isn't a god or gods, get a book on physics, biology, or history.  My top suggestion would be "History of Western Philosophy" by Bertrand Russell... one of the most enlightning books I have ever read.

  3. you might as well ask a Christian if they have read a physics book, or a devil worshiping book. Some have. Very few. And most of them cannot understand what is said anyways.

  4. I am a Christian and I read the book.  I was able to check it out at the library.  A very interesting book.  I have a whole section of a notebook that is dedicated to my response.  I was kinda disappointed since most of the arguements were not new nor very solid.

  5. Consider this before you read it.   If Christianity is true then you can only realize this through those that advocate it and not those that oppose it.  Why would you seek its truth by those that are willing and able to lie about it?

The Bible was written in a vague cryptic style as not to be understood by those that oppose it but of those who advocate it.  For the skeptic gleans from the text what may be invented against itself and the Bibles design provides ample fodder for them to choke on.  The truth of the Bible isnt to be found in "one liner scriptures"  but of a greater context which can only be recieved through study and the power of God.  The truth of the Bible is found in the conveyance of Gods message to His children and not from a literalists quest for error.  For the Gospel of Jesus Christ is foolishness to those that are perishing.

There are some that ask such questions after gleaning the Bible for perceived discrepancies.  They formulate a question abounding in confidence that they are the torch barer of the very question that is the undoing of Christianity and the Holy Bible.  They ply the Christian with the question which when answered there isn't a retort!  A reply!  Nothing.  No acknowledgment or thanks.  Instead, they just lumber on to the next of many issues that are unresolved in their minds.  Never satisfied, never coming to the understanding of the truth.

    John 1:5

The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

    1 Corinthians 1

21  For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,

    Matthew 11:25

At that time Jesus said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.

    2 Corinthians 4:4

The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

    Luke 8

9 His disciples asked him what this parable meant. 10 He said, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has been given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that,

"though seeing, they may not see;  though hearing, they may not understand.'

  6. I think Dawkins has a lot of interesting things to say, and he's clearly a brilliantly clever man, but I think the Atheists and Christians always end up talking past each other in these kinds of arguments.  Most Christians don't have enough knowledge of (or interest in) science to appreciate properly the arguments used by the Atheists.  And most of the atheists involved in the debate don't seem to demonstrate an understanding of the poetic nature of religion.

Dawkins is a professor whose remit is public understanding of science, and I think it's great that he's addressing fundamental questions like the existence of God, because it's very important in view of some public debates, like whether creationist bullsh*t should be taught instead of evolution in schools.

  7. I think Mr. Dawkins is a delusion.

  8. Why read a book that has no merit....

    *sigh*
