1st thing is our planet is not the only planet in the solar system. planets in our solar system affect earth in various ways.

jupitor has saved our planet from metiours that might had hit our planet. moon affects our planet much more than we can think even.

Also in the outer universe huge blasts of  stars known as super nova can affect our earth. the cosmic rays or particles may damage earths magnetic field that saves us from uv radiations.

hence scientist always keep watch on these things.

We also come to know more about our surroundings and the universe(astronomy).

You should be aware that our earth is not isolated from the universe. If ever any disturbance or anything different goes nearby or far happens then naturally it will affect the earth but how much it will affect it totally depends on how far the happening has occurred.

Let  me give you one simple example if u drop a small stone in a still water it gives some disturbance which form waves over water which affects everything present on the water and they stop only when they die and it happens at the edge of the water. similarily any disturbance produced in the universe affects our earth since the universe behave as like a pond of water and our earth as a small mud particle in it.
