My father has a really bad case of Meniere's Disease. Over 10 years a go he had inner ear surgery to fix the issue. Well, the doctor didn't do what he was supposed to so now its back! My father recently talked to a new doctor and this doctor recommended gentamicin shots. My father wants to do this but he really wants to talk to a few people who have had this procedure done. We have researched it on line and through books. So, I was wondering if anyone had had the gentamicin shots done for the Meniere's Disease and if you could please give me and my father information on it. We would really appreciate it. Thank you.

  1. Yahoo have a support group called "LivingDizzy"  have him register there....there is a wealth of people with Meniere's and other vestibular disorders.  Maybe someone in there will know more about the procedure.

I know that my doctor did mention surgery to me an I've heard about the injections, but haven't experienced them.

I hope this helps or gets you to someone who can.

  2. I was diagnosed with Menieres earlier this year, the first step we took was to alter my diet for caffeine, and salt intake. That didn't work, and I can't take the water pill, it makes me violently sick. I had a decadron injection about 2 weeks ago, no luck there either. My ENT surgeon, my Menieres doctor, who was also my mothers doctor, who also has  menieres disease told me about the gentamycin drops. He told me the injections or drops would make me deaf, and since so far, my hearing is good, he said that was not an option for me.  I don't know how your fathers hearing is, or his age, I am 35, and have young children, so going deaf isn't an option for me, he said even with the injection, there is no guarantee it would cure me.

  3. I just found out that I have it. I have been deaf since birth.  So far I am in the beginner's stage of the medication regime. I am on Antivert and "water pill" plus will have to be on stress medication soon.  I have to wait until the next doctor appointment to find out what is the next step is. I have already fallen against the dinning room table and chair which I hit my head, which means I have already had the "fall attacks" and  four more after that but lucky to be either laying down or sitting down when those attacks happened.   I do have titninuts (noises in the right ear). I have done both Yahoo and Goggle searches on Meniere's Disease, and looking for ways to cure myself by supplements and vitamins.

That shot is suppose to "numb" or "kill" the nerves that is causing the meniere's disease, however make sure that your father don't have other ear conditions, such as choleterlma since he already had ear surgery. Make sure MRI and CATSCANS are in the books to rule out other things in the ear area, also blood work is important.

Good luck to you and your father in this strange ear disease.
