i just finished the book, and i have this doubt, it is Pendergast alive, and from who are those eyes from diferent color???

in the beginning, err...i think it was the second murder, the one with the guy jumping out the window, i think pendergast had received a letter from someone (you KNOW who the someone is, i KNOW you do!!!) and that someone is the one who had removed the bricks
