If anyone on here is a bartender or know one who is........?

Question

I want to get into bartending but I have never worked in a restaraunt before. There are bartending schools in my state.

Should I try going to one of those schools??

If any of you are bartenders or know someone who is, did they have to get special training??

Any insight will be helpful. Thanks!

Bartending schools are a good place to get the expierence in making the "today" drinks.  They can also help with job placement.  I know several people who went and then found jobs that way.  they are very happy with the results.  You can get jobs not just at bars but at hotels, resorts and even vacation spa's.  Should travel be your thing try a cruise company.

I took a class through my city's programs to get my liquor license. It was about $200, they taught me how to make all of the common drinks and then some, and it covered all fees to get my license.

I worked as a cocktail server alongside bartenders(it looks hard) Like memorizing all the drinks recipes and ingredients....If I were U i'd go to school because If U do that way when You are looking for a job you'll have a better chance because of the training and you''ll pretty much already know what you're doing. You dont want to start working and messing up everything trying to learn at work. I say take the courses and See if its right for you

where i live you dont need any training you  just need to know how to mix drinks, a bar wouldn't be bad for you but a night club you would need to know how to mix more drinks. experience is everything so check around your area to volunteer at a bar/night club for experience and to see if you would like the work of a bartender.
