I applied as a hostess at the Olive Garden and I really would like to work there as a HOSTESS. I'm scared though that they might make me wait tables too. Does anyone know if they make their hostesses wait tables too or am I safe as just a hostess?

  1. They won't make you wait tables, but if you are a good hostess down the line they may ask you if you want to become a server.  They will never make you do it.  You may want to be a server sometime though.  You'll see how servers make more money than the hosts do and eventually you will become comfortable enough with the environment and menu that it won't be a nerve-racking change.

I've known a lot of hosts and hostesses who say "I never want to be a server", then a lot of them end up changing their minds!

  2. eventually

  3. if you are a hostess, you won't have to wait on tables. they can't have you waiting tables unless you are trained for that. IF they are really busy, the MOST you will have to do is MAYBE get them some drinks while they are waiting, and all you do basically is point them towards the bar. I am a waitress, and the hostess at our restraunt (i work at a small italian oven restraunt) never has to take tables or do anything besides seating people, and stressing over who goes where. Don't worry, and good luck.

  4. I did a stint as a waitress at the OG and the hostess' were never asked to do anything other than be a hostess; no side work, no running food, certianly no taking orders and such.  Some waitstaff there started as hostesses/hosts, but the management would never just say "here you go, wait some tables," without training and your wanting to become a waitress.  Good luck!

  5. No. Generally the duties of Host/Hostess consist of greeting the guests, determine how many to a party, taking them to their seats, and handing them menus, and serve as liaison between the guests and the servers.

  6. No hostess is ever safe. When it gets real busy or a wait person needs help you will get put out there to help.

  7. Your primary job will be hostessing.  If your not busy, at certain times you may be asked to help one of the waitstaff out.  Don't be scared..............
