Tara, you are right to highlight this trend in our diets: I have always believed in balance. The media place so much attention on the lighter stuff , like fancy fruit juices and steamed veg, and don't appear to mention the need for good fat, fibre, protein and carbs, etc. as much. I think girls/women are being silly/naive when they don't adhere to a good diet. ~

  1. Because babies need the fat for brain development. Adults actually shouldnt be drinking milk at all. There are other forms of calcium, dark green veggies are one.

  2. Babies are still growing and need a larger amount of fat in their diet, this does not mean chips it means healthy fat like milk. Adults on the other hand are grown and although we do need some fat to sustain hair skin nails and other various cellular systems in our bodies we do not need as much as our children and we also are intaking fat from other sources and therefore do not need to add whole milk to our diets..

  3. Because babies are growing and their brains are still developing.  Full-fat milk supplies babies with extra fat, which they need in order to help the brain develop.  Adults don't need this because we're grown.

  4. As a semi-fat-milk drinker I think that full-fat milk is absolutely fine for you as an adult. I think a lot of people tend to drink semi or skim milk because they're weight conscious. The constant trends of new weight loss diets put a lot of pressure on people. (sadly)  There's nothing wrong with extra fat (personally, I believe full-fat milk tastes the best) But again, for 'health' reasons I choose not to drink it.

I can't say I'm any better or worse than anyone else, but that's my reasoning.

  5. Shannon has a good answer. Fat is not the enemy that most people think it is. Fat has many uses in the body,,,,,that is why good lord created it. It helps development in the brain, muscles, cartilage, and on the cellular level.

Adults don't need it as much because we are developed and the extra fat we take in is not used and therefore stored as fat.
