Adam Dunn was traded yesterday, Aug. 12. The "trading deadline" was two weeks ago. What's different about post deadline trades?

  1. waiver deadline or free agent deadline is august 31

  2. The July 31st Deadline is the Non-waiver trade deadline. These are the 'regular' trades where teams just exchange players. The August 31st deadline is the waiver trade deadline. Teams first have to waive a player, and then when a team claims the player, other teams with lower records in their division can block the waiver. If no other team blocks the waiver, the two teams can work out a trade.

  3. I really hope nobody else clears waivers and gets traded before the end of the year.  This is like the 10th time this question has been asked since yesterday.

  4. THERES TWO DEADLINES:

JULY 31ST, WHICH IS THE NON-WAIVER DEADLINE(PLAYERS DONT HAVE TO PASS THROUGH WAIVERS TO BE TRADED)

AUGUST 31ST, WHICH IS THE WAIVER DEADLINE(PLAYERS HAVE TO PASS THROUGH WAIVERS TO BE TRADED) IF THEY DONT PASS THROUGH WAIVERS, AND ANOTHER TEAM TRIES TO PICK THEM UP, THE ORIGINAL TEAM CAN RETRACT THE WAIVER ATTEMPT, OR GO AHEAD AND TRY TO NEGOTIATE A TRADE, SINCE THE OTHER TEAM HAS SHOWN INTEREST IN THE PLAYER
