Then how come the injury rate in MMA isn't higher? Since the gloves are just to protect your knuckles, not your opponent.

  1. yes could be a lot, boxers punches isn't your ordinary mma punch, its a lot harder and heavier because they are concentrated on this mode. one  more thing is to protect the knuckles because they go up to 12 rounds whereas 3 rounds only in mma, mma also need their fingers exposed so they can hold to their opponents. although both are sports they kinda different in objectives.

  2. the reason that in MMA the injury rate is not higher is because as soon as the fighter is not able to protect himself  the fight is stoped.

  3. well boxing is the art of striking without the gloves matches would be too short

  4. No there would not be a lot more fatalities be cause the gloves and the gauze protects your hands. All pro fighters regardless of weight class wore 8oz. gloves and all 8oz were not on your knuckles . So if fighters fought bare knuckles there would be a lot more hand injuries and cuts. Now from middle weight up ware 10oz gloves.

  5. The gloves protect the person getting punched. It's a good bet that the MMA fighters will develop brain damage at very high rates.

  6. There would likely be fewer fatalities because, much like MMA, it would only take one or two clean blows to render an opponent unconscious, as opposed to hundreds of sustained concussive impacts over 12 rounds .

No gloves would also mean that approximately 100% of fighters would break their hands in every fight -- not very conducive to a long boxing career.
