  1. Holyfield and Tyson were big time weight lifters.  Holyfield even use to train with Mr. Olympia Lee Haney.  Some other guys are not so much into it but I bet they still do it a few times a week, but not to where it hurts there speed and flexibility.

  2. gotta give watch the 10 just for being willing to type that much at once huh.. way to go watch

  3. it all depends, some naturally have muscle mass and some don't. Some train to get bigger and heavier, some train to get lean fast and cut.

Every boxer has a different type of workout. Only one workout they can't fight without, is cardio workouts!

and many eat differently, diets are what build/cut the person up.

Maybe sometimes they do steroids if they get overly dramatic about it, but hey it's their lives, not ours.

  4. stairrodes

  5. .Steroids

  6. they use weights they dont like over doing it though so they do other things that make the muscle they need to fight !

  7. Remember television ads about 10 pounds on you so these guys appear a little thicker then in real life, Floyd is not as big in person, he is well defined.

Thomas R. who gave you an answer above was pretty accurate. Most boxers do or should only concentrate on the movements being used in boxing, if they can gain power without gaining size which equals weight, then they will benefit tremendously. Here is a brief description about plyometrics.

Plyometric training involves practicing plyometric movements to toughen tissues and train nerve cells to stimulate a specific pattern of muscle contraction so the muscle generates as strong a contraction as possible in the shortest amount of time. A plyometric contraction involves first a rapid eccentric movement, followed by a short amortization phase, then an explosive concentric movement, which enables the synergistic muscles to engage in the myotatic-stretch reflex during the stretch-shortening cycle. Plyometric exercises use explosive movements to develop muscular power, the ability to generate a large amount of force quickly. Plyometric training acts on both the musculotendinous and neurological levels to increase an athlete's power output without necessarily increasing their maximum strength output. Plyometrics are used to increase the speed or force of muscular contractions, often with goals of increasing the height of a jump or speed of a punch or throw

I hope this helps, but here is 1 more example to give you a better idea, do a few jumping jacks like this.

Lets start off with 10 jumping jacks in this fashion, 5 normal & 5 explosive alternating all the time.

Ok start of with a normal jumping jack, the next one jump in the air as high and with as much force as you can possibly muster up forming an X with your arms and legs. Alternate these "normal & then explosive" until you get to 10. I hope I explained this well enough for you to understand.

    Good Luck.

P.S go to WWW.LILWARRIOR.COM make sure its the site with a WARRIOR NATION on the front page. This is my 5' 6" boxer who fights at 115 lbs. He looks pretty thick for a little guy. We check on his strength once a year and he currently can bench 220 pounds 1 rep & squat 240 pounds 1 rep and we do no weight lifting at all. He does 300 push ups & sit ups twice a week as well as plyometrics and swimming twice a week. GOOD LUCK!!!

  8. who say's boxers dont use weights? though the point with most athletes and thier sport is to concentrate strength training on muscles used in their sport. building mass in areas not needed just adds useless weight.
