If cadillac back fires will that cause a decrease in power?

i have a cadillac concourse a 1995 and i really dont know alot about it so i'm trying to get it fixed i have little money so i have to get it right the first time any ways the car will start and idle ok but sumtimes when i rev the engine the car will back fire really loud and i thought my tranny was messed up so i took it to a tranny shop and the guy told me my trannys good that its my timing thats why its backfiring and the timing needs to be re-timed and it should solve the problem so if you maybe know thats waht could be it or have a solution to help me out please help?

Whilst I have not worked on Cadillacs I recognize this problem & agree that the timing is probably out. Hope this helps. Good luck. h
