Situation (between these two countries) does not warrant a nuclear exchange. After Hiroshima and Nagasaki nukes were never used for 63 years (to date).

If ever, it is going to be a conventional war. There were military probing operations typified by Chinese and Indian Army came out successfully.

Minor skirmishes did take place and both governments put heavy blankets on the incidents. In the event of hostilities, Indian vital points being closer to border are vulnerable. Chinese counterpoints are way off and only reachable by 3000km range IRBMs. Such a contingency is not contemplated here; nor we have a really hot-headed general in the mould of Pakistani generals who went down in recent history.

Unlike in 1962 (and because of it) Indian Army is far better equipped. There is no gainsaying that Chinese Army is superior, but Indian Army is not inferior. Further, Chinese achieved their objective of 1962 and nothing further seems to be on their agenda. We are not going to launch a campaign to retrieve the land ('Aksai chin' area) from under their occupation., no indication to that effect.

Biggest threat both of them are facing is 'terrorism' that might unite them. But war on terrorism is not fought on conventional lines. We have been witnessing the failure of it.

Having said all that, China nor Chinese never ventured beyond a hundred miles from their perceived borders on any military campaign. Thanks to Pakistan, Indian Army is always on its toes ready to take any bigger campaign. As on today India is fighting a low-intensity, proxy war that stayed as a guest, for decades. India is at war and that is the paradox. So, the Armed Forces stand battle hardened, contrary to popular perception that militarily India is relaxing.

I can't imagine why China would want to take over India.  They've already got a huge amount of land, natural resources and a large, relatively young population.  China would seem to be more focused on "taking over" the world through simple economics.

Like I said earlier in my previous answers We love peace. Yet only those can remain peaceful and preach about peace who's got the biggest cane. We may not have the biggest cane but our cane is certainly not smaller. So, yes! We can certainly defend ourselves from attack from any country.

But then again we wouldn't let the situation go worst. Peaceful dialogs can solve any quarrel.
