it's bothered me for a bit, i'm not sure whether they have eyes or not but even if they did, why would they run away from light?

p.s. i could not find a proper category, sorry (i'll feel stupid if you show me the proper category so please, don't, lol :)

  1. some cockroaches hav eyes and others dont the reason the run from light is a little light to them is the equal of being on the sun

  2. Nah, this is the right category.

Pffsh.  I'm jealous.  The cockroaches on my house could care less about light or the presence of any large animal in my house, as long as they don't get touched.  Sometimes they fooking run towards my feet even when I stomp the ground near them.  They're either really stupid or they can smell my fear =P

  3. The insects have two composite eyes and three single eyes (like the dragonflies). The insects as bees can see UV light (but don't see the red colour) and can see the polarized light too. The cockroaches do have eyes!

  4. Certainly cockroaches have eyes as they are a sort of insect (species Blattaria) a bit like a beetle.

However they are generally active at night  and therefore run away from bright light, working mostly by smell.

Their sense of smell is very developped and they use it both for finding food, and then for communicating via pheremones (signals by smells)  with which they pass on the information about the food sources to other members of their nest.

They leave smelly trails to the food sources in much the same way that ants do, so that sometimes you might see them  walking in a line from the nest to the food.
