  1. My conclusion is no, we shouldn't drink unlimited amounts, for several reasons. But for most people, 3-5 cups (not mugs) is not excessive. Decaf still has about 3 mg of caffeine per 8 oz.

Be aware of HOW your coffee is decaffeinated, though. Most big brand coffees use a nasty chemical to remove the caffeine. They then wash it "all" out because it leaves behind an odd flavor. ("Natural" ethyl acetate smells fruity but it can take off your old nail polish. Also destroys the antioxidants in coffee.) Even trace amounts can still be bad for your health, if consumed on a regular basis. The Swiss water process or Co2 methods are considered the most desirable method but they're expensive. So if a company uses it, they're going to brag about it.

Chlorogenic acids in coffee are thought to inhibit one of the enzymes involved in the formation of glucose in the small intestine, causing lower blood sugar. That's good if you're diabetic, but bad if you have hypoglycemia.(http://www.positivelycoffee.org/topic_dm...

There is some evidence that "coffee may increase the risk of leukemia and stomach cancer, suggesting that people who may be vulnerable to these risks (for example pregnant women and children) should limit coffee consumption." (reported by Dr. Lenore Arab, a nutritional epidemiologist in the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA)

Any liquid, even water, has a diuretic effect when consumed in excess. This can cause muscle cramps, dry skin and even brain swelling (in extreme situations.) So moderate - drink no more than 3 to 5 cups of coffee and fill in the rest of your day with 3 to 5 cups of pure, delicious water.

  2. Chemical substances are added to the coffee beans

to eliminate the caffeine, you won't be taking caffeine but  you'd still be feeding your body with chemical stuff.......

    Hope this helps...

  3. cosuming to much of anything isnt good for anybody. moderation is the key.
