Question:

If criminal charges are listed on a court website, can I be sued for libel if I repeat them?

My son received a letter from a collection agency for someone with the same name. That person has a criminal record and it is listed in a "public access" format. If I look for him or ask questions concerning his criminal activity, is that libel? I'm assuming that the information listed on the court website is accurate and he is indeed a criminal. Can he sue me if I am giving out information about him in an attempt to clear my son's name?
