If the normal deforestation ratio continues, how much time would it take for it to cause permanent losses to rain forests?

  1. It has already occurred.

  2. never, I heard this argument in the early 80's when I was in school.  give it up

  3. irrecplaceable loss happens every day. The tropical rainforest belt houses more than 80% of the world's species

Its been estimated that more than 50,000 species disappear yearly due to deforestation. Much of the original rainforests tracts are gone. Lumber sold to countries like the US and China.

Its estimated that nearly 80% of rainforest along with its biodiversity will be lost by 2050. Some countries (i.e. Phillippines, India, Thailand) have even declared their deforestation a national emergency.

In other cases, such as temperate rainforests and deciduous forests.....much of that has been lost already. Granted many areas were allowed to grow back after clearcutting huge tracts of land (in some cases such as the Appalachias of the USA). But these areas are no longer housing the same species (plant and animal) that it once did.....

    I could go on... lol
