If driving to and from Coventry or Oxford from Edinburgh, what is the best time to leave?

Want to avoid traffic. Leaving Edinburgh Monday morning; leaving either Coventry or Oxford on Tuesday, and need to be back in Edinburgh by 8.30pm

The trip will take just over 6 and a half hours, guess you are going to go via M6, perhaps the quickest route but also quite busy, give yourself and extra 2 - 3 hours.  Dont forget to take a break there are a few on the M6.  You would need to leave around 12.00 which is not much fun with lunchtime traffic, so best leave around 11:00 that should get you onto the M6 and get some miles in.
