I hope so. The South should be proud to be Americans. Being proud of the confederate flag just means your proud of its roots, which correlate with being a racist or liking racists in the past that had slaves.

It is said that we southerners are proud of our heritage but not always our history

I think that that may be true of America in general

Personally I don;t get the pride of displaying a symbol of defeat but I don't want to tell other that they can't revel in that defeat if they want to

The modern day revisionist southerners will never admit that the current incarnation of that flag has very racist roots, as it pertains to government and capitol buildings

It was reinstated during the 50s as a protest against the civil rights movement

Contrary to popular disinformation they did not fly continuously over those capitol building since reconstruction

The flag has it's place in history but not one my bumper it is a symbol of Southern pride , a divisive symbol of a group of insurgents that ripped this country apart to some, and a symbol of the meaning of the 2nd Amendment and the ability of the people to rise up against a corrupt government to others

All of these opinions are valid and verifiable

But no Obama would not make the flag illegal

As just the president he would not have the power

No, he would not outlaw the confederate flag, although I wish people would stop displaying them, since the confenderacy doesn't even exist anymore.

I hope so, the Confederate flag is worthless.  It should be burned.  If the South wants their own separate flag to cherish, maybe they should start their own country and leave ours for good this time.

The flag represents southern independence, which was hard fought for, and almost achieved. The fact that an outspoken minority of whites (mostly northerners I might add) abuse it and corrupt its meaning is no reason to get rid of it. The most racist flag is the US flag, if that's how you measure it. After all, don't the neo-n***s, Klan, and other white-supremists use THAT flag. Not all of them use the confederate battle flag, but they ALL use the US flag.

People who are unable to separate icons from the things a few whackos use them for do not need to open their mouths on the subject.
