Question:

If every cell in your body replaces itself several times over a lifetime?

and obviously that includes skin cells, as we know we shed skin cells all the time, thanks to like CSI Miami, etc., then WHY do we still have scars and freckles? Is the damage some how encoded into the memory, so the cell replaces itself with a damaged cell? What would be the point of this???? And don't just say that the damage is deeper, because even those deeper cells replace themselves.

  1. Cells do not replace themselves with damaged cells.  We have layers of skin cells that are gradually shed over time, revealing the next layer of skin underneath.  When we have damage to our skin, new cells must rapidly be formed to fill in the damage.  Otherwise, we would be more prone to infection.  So scarring may be the ugly result of nature's "quick fix".
